Gerhard van der Horst
Chief Executive Officer

Gerhard started his career as an accountant at Crossroads Distribution over 20 years ago. He was appointed Divisional GM in 2002, and was then promoted to Group CEO in 2006. Gerhard is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organisation (YPO) and the Institute of Directors, and serves as a director on various boards, which includes the Road Freight Association. He completed his BAcc and BCom (Hons) degrees and a Senior Management Programme at Stellenbosch University, followed by a Diploma in Transport from Rand Afrikaans University.

Ferdie van der Merwe
Financial Director, Crossroads

Ferdie has been with the company since 1995 when he joined Stuarts Transport as financial manager. He has been an invaluable member of the team, spearheading some of our more historical developments such as the original black empowerment initiative which resulted in the formation of Crossroads and his appointment as financial director of the group in 1997. Ferdie studied part-time through the University of Pretoria and graduated with a B Comm Hons Accounting degree and is a certified Chartered Accountant.

Dave Behrens
Group HR Executive, Crossroads

Dave joined Trencor in August 1992 as Industrial Relations Manager and has since gained over 30 years of valuable experience in the personnel/industrial relations field, with 19 years in logistics. His current responsibilities include senior managerial appointments, performance management, aspects of the recent divisional restructuring, as well as handling the change management and communications processes through a dedicated Management Action Team. He completed a BSocSc degree at UCT in 1980. Other courses include the post-graduate Certificate Programme in Industrial Relations at the then Wits Business School and an Industrial Training Officers Certificate from Natal Technikon.

Vic Barnard
Group Financial Manager, Crossroads

Vic joined Crossroads Distribution in April 1999 as Financial Manager: Central Office, promoted to Group Financial Manager in 2003. He is responsible for the Group’s Annual Financial Statements, Tax Returns, Monthly Management Reporting, Annual Budgets, Forecasts and Cash Management and is the Principal Officer of the Company’s Provident Fund. He has a special interest in profit forecasts, which was also the subject of his MBL thesis. Vic studied part-time and obtained the following degrees: B.Compt (Hons) (Unisa), CA (SA), MBL (Unisa) and HDip Tax Law (UCT).

Hennie van Wyk
Acting Managing Director, Crossroads

Hennie joined the group in 1994. He was part of the management buyout team in 1997 when Crossroads became an independent, new brand in the market place. Currently, his responsibilities include managing and providing customers in the fuel, retail, explosives, mining, agriculture, wine and manufacturing industries with dedicated fleet services, including specialised equipment and dedicated logistic solutions. Hennie's qualifications include an honours degree in Financial Accountancy from the University of Stellenbosch and a number of management courses.

Howard Sayers
General Manager: Mining Consolidation & Warehousing, Crossroads

After an 18-month stint as Senior Marketing Consultant for Jowells Transport in Cape Town. Howard rejoined Crossroads as a Project Manager for the Full Truckload division in Johannesburg in June 2000. Since then he has steadily worked his way up the ladder in numerous marketing positions, with a particular focus on the mining side of the business. Howard was also involved in the establishment of the joint venture enterprises, Moripane Transport Holdings and Bakubung Distribution Services.
